emily floyd handcrafted jewelry

I've been making jewelry since I was twelve. It's still fun because it keeps evolving. Started working with seed beads and moved on to polymer clay. I worked at a local bead store while studying Art and Art History at the University of Minnesota. Those were great influences for me. Art History of India class in the morning, sculpture in the afternoon and then arrive at work to find my favorite vendors from the Middle East, Asia and Africa unpacking their goods for us to paw over and learn about. During those days I stock piled information, ideas, techniques and materials. I fell in love with antiquities, stones, metals and all variety of handcrafted adornment. I learned of the metaphysical properties of natural materials. The endless possibilities to create something beautiful and meaningful. More recently I have expanded my expression with recycled materials. I feel so fortunate to have additional medium to explore. Times are changing. And just as everything old is new- everything spent is reborn.

I am an artist, yogi and cyclist. I am thankful to be surrounded by family and friends- without their support I would be nowhere. I live, work and create in South Minneapolis with boyfriend and my cat.
